The Broadway

Past Development

945 Broadway St NE Minneapolis

The Broadway is a 60,000-square-foot creative office and retail building located at the intersection of Broadway Street and Central Avenue, the gateway of the Northeast Minneapolis arts district. The building features exposed brick and timber, 18-foot ceilings, glass curtain wall, magnificent interior and exterior columns and original hardwood floors. The outdoor green space features a sculptural amphitheater, stone fountain, a plaza built from stones recovered from the demolished Metropolitan Building and a stone sculpture titled “Torso” by local artist Zoran Mojsilov. The Broadway’s unique environment pays homage to the historical beauty of the original factory but is infused with modern art and amenities.

The Broadway was originally built in 1921 for Land O’ Nod Mattress Company, who patented the waterbed and developed chiropractic mattresses and box springs. Prior to being acquired by First & First in December 2011, The Broadway was home to Twin City Paper Company for almost half a century.

First & First purchased the Broadway building in 2012 and after a complete restoration with respect to the building’s past, the Broadway is now a dynamic, creative, mixed-use space. Artists, hair stylists, coffee roasters, creative firms and craftsmen all office inside the inspired, transformed space. 612 Brew, a microbrewery on the main level, serves craft beer to the community near an outdoor plaza.
